Wewlyn Garden City U18 v Ware Youth Blacks

Welwyn U18s win against top of the league Ware Blacks

Missing 2 key players the lads knew this was going to be a tough game against a very good Ware Blacks side. Welwyn started strong and we straight away were piling on the pressure. The game was end to end and it looked like either team could take the lead, however nothing was able to penetrate our solid defence, weeks of practicing defending the long ball in was paying off.

With both Harrison and Adams pace causing problems on the wings Ware were struggling to cope as Welwyn utilised the width to break down their defences. Welwyn were awarded a corner and with a fantastic ball in Shogo was able to put his head on it and Welwyn were in the lead. Omar kept our lead with some fantastic saves and the team were going from strength to strength.

Welwyn dominated the rest of the first half but were caught right on half time with an equaliser from Ware. Its always a blow to be hit on half time so coming out into the second half Welwyn started a little sluggish, feeling the pressure to defend rather than attack the ball, but with a few excellent chances from both Harrison and Ellis confidence was beginning to rise again.

With Welwyn playing some beautiful passing football and remaining strong at the back with Ollie, Dom, Stan and Jamie clearing everything up, even with the constant pressure from Ware they just couldn't find a way through. Alex and lee didn't give the midfield any time and closed them down quickly and were forcing Ware to make mistakes.

The game remained wide open as each team pressed for the next goal, fortunately that fell to Welwyn, as Louis kept calm and slotted it passed the keeper. Are attack became more aggressive and after a near miss free kick and 2 close chances, confidence was high.

Soon after, Ollie hammered through the midfield with a clever flick over his head followed by a crucial outside of the foot through ball putting Ellis one on one with the keeper. Ellis showed no remorse and punished the keeper by smashing the ball into the roof of the net.

With Ware chasing the game they scrambled a second goal but with frustrations high it wasn't going to be enough and Welwyn finished the game deserved winners.

The progress of this team continues to shine with their attitudes and work rate paying off their quality of football is finally seeing results. Well Done to all the lads a superb victory and one to be proud of.
